Jack Evans | Black Rag Blues

November 7 - 29 . 2026

Opening Reception : Saturday November 7th . 1-5pm

Paintings and works on paper heavily influenced by the New York School of Abstract Expressionism of the 40’s and 50’s

Having spent most of my adult life in the music business (Mystery Train Records), the deep feeling and wild energy of American music from this time period is as important to my work as strictly aesthetic concerns.                   — Jack Evans . November 2026

Evans believes it’s time to go back to the crossroads - time to turn from the virtual world to the human one where art and life can breathe and grow.

Jack Evans lives and works in Gloucester, MA and made his living in the record business. He is the owner of Mystery Train Records in downtown Gloucester. He is a self-taught painter whose fascination with the Abstract Expressionists of the 40’s and 50’s, as well as the music from that era, led him to become a visual artist. He has had several shows in Gloucester and Cambridge and plans to be painting for the rest of his life. This is his second solo exhibition at Jane Deering Gallery.
